WorkComposer & You: How Workplace Monitoring Works

Last modified: July 8, 2026

If your employer uses WorkComposer, some of your work activity may be recorded while you work. This page explains, in plain language, what WorkComposer is, what it can collect, and who to talk to. It is a general overview — your employer decides exactly what is turned on and is responsible for telling you how they use it.

Who does what

Your employer is in control. WorkComposer is a tool that employers use to track work time and activity. Your employer (the organization that installed WorkComposer on your device) decides whether to use it, which features to turn on, and how to use the information. In privacy terms, your employer is the “data controller.” WorkComposer Inc is the “data processor” — we operate the software and store the data on your employer's behalf, following their instructions.

What WorkComposer can collect (depending on your employer's settings)

  • Screenshots of your screen while you work
  • Activity levels (a general measure of keyboard and mouse activity — not the actual keys you type)
  • Applications and websites you use during work time
  • Worked time (when tracking starts and stops)
  • Approximate location (based on your IP address), if your employer enables location tracking

Not every employer turns on every feature. Some employers use a “silent” mode, where WorkComposer runs without showing the usual on-screen controls. Even in silent mode, you can always open the “About WorkComposer” window from the WorkComposer tray icon to see this notice.

Where your data is stored

WorkComposer stores this information on secure cloud infrastructure (Amazon Web Services) located in the United States. Data is retained for up to one year and then automatically deleted.

Your rights

You may have rights over your personal data — for example, to ask what is held about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. Because your employer decides how your data is used, your employer is your first point of contact for these requests. Contact your organization's administrator to make a request or ask questions about monitoring at your workplace. If you need to reach WorkComposer directly, you can email us at privacy@workcomposer.com and we will help route your request to your employer.
